English Abstract

"The Akathist Hymn is a profound, devotional poem or chant, which sings the praises of the Holy Mother and Ever-Virgin Mary (Theotokos). It is chanted in all Orthodox Churches throughout the world during the five Fridays in the Great Lent, and constitutes a very concrete spiritual preparation for the Holy Week and Easter Services." so tells us Fr. George Papadeas.

The poem is integrating ancient faith of the first Christian Church with pictures and myths of a great mother godess befor christian times to the most beautiful devotional praise of the Virgin Mary, which ever had been written.
Akathist Hymn means a Hymn, which has to be song while standing; this points to its great power. For in the times of emperor Herakleios, a sudden tempest drowned the fleet of enemies, which had attacked the capital of Bycantium. Saved by this wonder the people song all the night to honour Mary as the saviour of country. From this day till now, as it is reported, this  Hymn to the Theotokos has some very speciell powers of healing, saving and marvel. Even to modern people the suggestive charm has an amazing effect to the souls of those who are listening.

Moving in our Circle Dances and Meditative Dance, while listening to the mystic chant, the impression gets even stronger and you´ll never forget this meeting with a holy sphere of old christian faith.
